Dear DEVS, from your loyal playerbase

I'm really hoping the Devs actually read this.

Dear DEVS,

As an on again off again player since launch, I really want you guys to understand how I feel and I'm sure there's plenty like me. I have always loved this game. There is no other MMO like it. With its unique combat style and crazy amount of customisation options for me it stood out amongst the rest. The fact it was DC comics based sealed the deal for me. I bought multiple lifetime accounts at launch so half my family could play because we all loved dc

However over the last couple of years you changed your business model (which is fine, I get it you're a company you need to make money). The pay to have the best powers/items in the game, while being kinda dirty to the people that don't have hundreds of dollars to keep spending in games to keep up was a smart idea. It's a sign you understand some of the playerbase(the sweats and people that can afford it will always pay to be on top/to have the best).

My issue with this, (again I'm sure there's plenty more that feel the same) is that for years now, this game/playerbase has been your top money maker as stated in multiple eg7 yearly financial conferences. This is where your first issue starts. It has been stated in said conferences that instead of reinvesting the money made from this game (your top earning game), you're taking the money, the money your loyal playerbase in this game makes you and reinvesting it into other games while leaving DCUO running on fumes with just enough to keep it afloat. Imho this is a dirty tactic and not fair on the playerbase that keeps coming back and throwing you guys more money only for you to take it and spend elsewhere.

This lack of reinvesting into this game is showing. New content releases were once exciting. We got at least one new raid, a new alert and a new solo/duo. Now to save money and use it elsewhere we get a recycled raid and alert along with a new raid/alert that is pretty much the same since you just give us a watered down version of the new raid as an alert. This becomes mundane and monotonous real fast. I'm sure you guys see it, you only have to look at how fast the number of people playing drops again after new content releases. I won't get right in to the power set updates (which was a great idea since water needed it heavily) that started but are just in a hiatus now *cough hard light cough.

I strongly believe you should be taking the money we invest into your game instead of spending it elsewhere and reinvesting it into this game that continually makes you the most money before you guys stop it from doing so. Relying on whales to keep the game afloat is only going to last so long. It's running on a 20 year old game engine which already turns off alot of new players off and I understand updating this will never happen since it will pretty much require a complete rebuild to update. However alot of us loyal/long time players see past this and still want to play but without a decent amount of content(not just recycled and reused) to keep us interested I fear this playerbase is going to continue to drop off.

There's a reason this game has lasted so long, so many of us love it. But unless you guys change something I don't see it continuing to be your top money maker. I personally have backed right off spending and playing because I'm of the belief why should I spend money on a game to only fund your other projects. I'm sure many others feels the same. Anyways that's the end of my rant. I hope you guys take something from this and can make our game thrive once again.

Not how businesses work.

Their profit margin is around 20% on average. What that means is that 80% of the revenue they make  is reinvested in the game because 80% of the revenue is spent on the games servers and staff, you know, the people that develop the game.

Posts like this show a blatant lack of understanding how a business spends it money.

- Paying the costs of operation isn't reinvesting. If the profit margin is around 20%, that is the money that would count as reinvestment if they actually reinvested in the game.
- How do you think they get money to develop new games? Exactly, with the profit other games make.

EG7 is a holding company. They think just like Wall Street bros: the next big thing is more profitable than a 15-year-old game. It doesn't matter that it keeps getting new players ever year still even with almost none publicity, it doesn't matter how loyal the players are. Old games are a liability to them. They look at DCUO and not only see something that can't be expanded, but there's also the fact that DC Comics gets some of the cutting due to licensing.

As much as I'd like a DCUO sequel that doesn't rely on exobytes, I think the window for that came and went while DC wasn't that attractive as a brand due to the DCEU. They'll not spend a lot of money on projects they don't entirely own. And that's pretty depressing, because DC Comics has the best universes because it's less grounded. I'd love a DCUO2 the swaps origins (magic/meta/tech) for races with a fleshed out Earth with all of the locations existing from day 1, then expanding to aliens and other planets and planes of existence as time goes on. But that's not happening. At least not from Daybreak. It's sad, but it's the truth.

Not sure why you think Devs choose where the cash go ..they are employees not the boss they just follow order like in any other job .
You're right. But maybe they can forward the message to the ones who are choosing where the Cash goes. A lot of the Money this Game generates goes to other Games, that's the Reason why we have so many Bugs and why Revamps take so long.

If they would reinvest part of that Money to 2-4 new Devs, many Problems this Game has would vanish faster.

2-4 more staff wouldn't make a single damn difference. even if they were skilled coders, they cant fix design choices or software infrastructure that would require a complete game rebuild from the ground up to fix or fundamentally alter in any way.

the current development team isn't working 12+ hour days every week, manpower isn't the issue. and spending over $200k on more devs every year isn't going to make the game better or more profitable.

If the current ones concentrate on the Story and the new ones on the Revamps/Bug Fixes that wouldn't change anything? Currently the whole Team does all of that, so how can't 2-4 more Devs not change anything?

@8vAv8 You will need to ten times your numbers. 2-4 employees is not enough for a Triple-A class project. It will need to be 20 to 40 employees.

@Cable Girl The game that actually has the most overall revenue is EverQuest 1. Where the EverQuest franchise is the top earner overall. The proper strategy is for Dimensional Ink Games to use EverQuest 1/2 characters (Export and/or Variant) in a Urban Fantasy/Superhero setting. Rather than supporting a licensed MMORPG, it is better to support an original MMORPG.

The only path that can actually support DC Universe Online is WB Games gets ownership of DIG and DCUO. This in-turn would convert a licensed MMORPG into an original MMORPG. However, that doesn't really support EG7's money earning portfolio.

Dark Paw Games: Everquest 1 (original), Everquest 2 (original)
Standing Stone Games: Dungeons & Dragons Online (licensed), The Lord of the Rings Online (licensed)
Dimensional Ink Games (2020-2022): DC Universe Online (licensed), Marvel Universe Online (licensed)

EG7 could keep the relationship with DC with a hypothetical SuperQuest;
EverQuest Comics via Wildstorm Productions:
- The Ruins of Kunark
- Transformation
- Accounting
- The Quest for Darkpaw (EQOA)

Ideal outcome for this is DIGs (~2030): DC Universe Online (licensed), SuperQuest (original)

20-40 People to support the 12 they have now? Or do you mean for a whole new Game?

I mean just reinvesting some of the Money they get from DCUO back into DCUO instead of spending it on other Games.

A MMORPG's value is tied to the capability to hire MORE rather than LESS.

To get DC Universe Online on-track to compete with Superhero-bubbled Themepark live-services;
Zenless Zone Zero
Neverness to Everness
Ananta

Would need the budget of a new game anyway. Whether to do a slow complete overhaul or a fresh new game. The cost would basically be the same. The new game that does not step on existing land would have a fresh ecosystem. While the old game would have to suffer the deadweight of the older playerbase.

Sorry, but I just had to

I agree with a OP to a degree, but the CEO and devs just don't give a damn
