It's definitely too late for that episode 48 was their last chance to change directions they said they were able to but the episode is in the same direction as every other episode. That's extremely dangerous for them to do anymore episode 47 was supposed to be in a New Direction and it's population was disgustingly low. Considering Episode 49 won’t be till March, April, May, maybe even June of next year? That’s a long long time for player numbers to drop off and off. I doubt Seasonals will keep people here. They already dropped the ball on both STU and SM those may never return either. They only seem to have resources to make Time Capsules and Booster Bundles at this point. You’re right they needed to hit some highs with Episodes 47 and 48 and while they’re not awful they’re not great either. No one remember 47 n 48 years from now they’re pretty bland. Shocked and Cursed are way better episodes than those but that’s what the old dev team worked on so yeah. I’m not saying DCUO closes in 2025 but does it stay open in 2026 at this point? Not looking so good.
I'm going to try and stay hopeful but it's really hard. There could very well be a new unclaimed system in the works. which means if done properly would relieve alot of the clamp issues everyone's experiencing with older content or even end game when the pop isn't there. Perhaps their main focus is figuring out their next unclamped progression system to bring and hold the player retention. Maybe just maybe they decided last minute that that should be their Direction and not changing the direction of the episode. Perhaps the player retention is not about the episodes at all it's about feeling more powerful and if done right it could bring this game back from the dead and older content aswell as pvp not just pve
