Gotham and Metropolis Day & Night Cycle

After downloading the PS5 Console version of DCUO I’ve noticed a huge difference between shading and lighting throughout different environments within the game. Some environments will enhance the overall look of your characters skin and clothing no matter if you are wearing one of the retextured human skins or not. With that being said I feel as though something that the development team could do that would add a more lively atmosphere to DCUO is to add a Day and Night Cycle. I’m once again sending praise to the amazing Men and Women Developers working on current day DCUO. Without you I would never feel this comfortable presenting these ideas I had for the game. With that being said I think you should consider adding a Day and Night Cycle. Adding a Day and Night Cycle would make for a more immersive and inclusive environment, bettering the experience for New Players starting DCUO. When you exit any Safe house as a New Player, your First Impression of the game would be this Dynamic world with an actual working Day and Night Cycle. This would Eliminate the One Dimensional aspect of both Gotham and Metropolis. Gotham is more than a Dark Rundown Dystopian Society and Metropolis is more than a Bright Hopeful Crime-less Society. This is why I think a Day and Night Cycle should be added to DCUO’s Gotham and Metropolis

I have no objection to it, at all. might be cool. if they can pull it off, sure, why not?
With this Dev team, I’m going all out with asking them. I just want this game to thrive like it did upon release and keep a steady flow of players. I feel like ideas like this will make some older players realize that DCUO is in good hands and is turning into something they’d never thought they’d see

As this will add almost no discernable 'value' and would take a big change to the base game (as there is no existing cycle of day/night), I doubt you will ever see this change. If anything, vs a cycle, I'd guess it would be more of an on/off switch, where...for instance... one week could be light in Gotham...the next week it could be dark again. I'd bet heavily against it happening in any form, but a true 'cycle' with a sunrise and sunset and all the phases in between would be a pretty big undertaking.

If you want to see Gotham in the Daytime...at least part of it...go to Earth 3 open world.

But good luck with that.

The “Discernible” which you spelt wrong Value it would add would be enriching the world of DCUO, breathing new life into a game released over a decade ago. It would show that a game as old as this one is keeping up with the times and making the world have more depth than it already does

It's an absolutely preposterous idea, that adding day and night cycle to a couple of old maps is going to "enrich" or "breathe new life" into anything. If anything - it's probably going to cause new bugs, like pretty much all the recent additions have done. Most players almost never visit those maps after finishing the introductory missions, except for a few minutes a day a few weeks out of the year. Spending time and resources on such nonsense, when there are real issues that need addressing, would be a fool's errand and it's not going to happen.

And the word you're desperately grasping for is "depth", not "debt".

little Bohemia is literally the most active spot in the game. For you to say that no one would visit it when it clearly is the most visited spot in the game is idiotic. I swear pessimist have nothing better to do than to dash their negative ideology onto others so that they can lose all sense of hope. This is a forum to inform the development team on ideas that can bring longevity or should I say “longer-gevity” to an already existing game. If you didn’t agree with what I wrote there are literally millions of other posts you could’ve went to that catered towards your actual wants and needs. You don’t want things to be added thats fine, then leave the forums and enjoy the game as is. You serve no purpose here

No, it "literally" isn't. Lol... Most players never go there. Only a bunch of weirdos, stuck in 2014, pretending that anybody cares about the sad side-show that passes for PvP these days.

My "purpose here" is none of your concern. If you can't handle criticism - don't post on a public forum.

You think that was criticism? ***** once again if you love the game as is your presence here serves no purpose. Move along

You clearly do, since you're getting defensive and belligerent. The purpose of my presence here (other than to improve level of literacy) is to remind you, that if the devs waste finite time and resources on fluff, it will negatively impact areas of development that actually matter.

Your argument was that if the dev team added this addition to the game that it would most likely cause bugs and break it such as with other updates to the game currently so your solution is to not add anything to the game at all and leave the game as is which would leave the game in a stalemate. Stating that you are here to improve literacy is hilarious seeing as you can’t even spell the word infinite. Once again your presence serves no purpose and is meaningless lmao

Lol... You should learn how to use a dictionary, before you try to criticize smarter people's spelling. The word "finite" is the exact opposite of the word "infinite", which is why I used it - because devs' time and resources are NOT infinite.

See - that's another thing I taught you today. You're welcome.

I know the word “Finite” i believed you was using the word “infinite” to encapsulate how long you believe the game would be up which with suggestions like mine would be forever. time doesn’t matter to you, you believe that all addition to the game will negatively impact the game causing bugs. How about you post on the forums of what you want the devs to add. Nice try though lmao

Did you, now? Lol... Well, next time try to read what's being said carefully before responding - multiple times if you have to - so that you may avoid embarrassing misunderstandings like that.

I wasn’t embarrassed in the slightest. For you to think that the dev teams time is “finite” shows that you have no belief in the game being here in the foreseeable future which is why you’re literally in the forums of a game you have no bright ideas for going on nonsensical ramblings about how improving the immersion by adding a day and night cycle is a “fools errand”. Once again you serve no purpose here.

Nope. Lol. It shows, that I'm an adult and I know that the number of people working on the game, as well as the number of hours in a day are not unlimited. I don't know how you keep failing to understand such a simple concept.

Nah that’s not it at all, based on your responses on multiple threads you’re just a weird grown man trolling on the internet. Had I known I would’ve just left it at the first response, good job getting that dopamine rush

You've been given the information, why what you're proposing is extremely unlikely to happen. You may cope with it however you like.

With that being said I feel as though something that the development team could do that would add a more lively atmosphere to DCUO is to add a Day and Night Cycle. Being able to experience Gotham in the Day and Metropolis in the Night would be such a refreshing experience and would show that there is life within the game. I understand that Gotham and Metropolis are supposed to show the duality of one another, with Metropolis being hopeful and Gotham being damned but adding a Day and Night Cycle would show that no matter the location, there is good and evil that traverse both environments. This is why I think a Day and Night Cycle should be added to DCUO’s Gotham and Metropolis
You can experience Gotham during the day in Earth 3 Gotham and Metropolis by night in Blackest Night.

Personally, I think the "regular worlds" demand way more than that. I firmly believe that Gotham and Metro from the early game should not be the same as regular Gotham and Metro. The EG version with the bottled buildings and Brainiac troops should be relegated to story content, EP2 bounties, and EP3 missions. The remaining content and features (also a few EG content like the Fanboy/More Than You Can Chew feat) should be moved to an EEG version of those cities, without the bottles and the ruins - that'd also mean it would be clamped/scaled, but I don't think that's a problem, since seasonal nodes don't count damage, only hits.

Without the story mission nodes and portals, not only we'd have more room for daily dose nodes and seasonal content, but that'd also make room for something I've been wanting for a while: bounties that feel like a natural evolution of what we have in EG, as those cities are visited by iconics. Those bounties could replace the Weekly Dose missions, because missing 3 days of Daily Dose should not be punished that harshly. To integrate your idea with mine, maybe different times of the day/night could spawn different groups of iconics, kinda like World Events in Patchwork Themyscira and Dakota City.

I know that might be too much to ask, but dreaming is still free of charge, so why not?

Everyone has a place here. If you believe someone is trolling, you may submit the problematic post as a Report.

Correcting each other's spelling and word usage wasn't constructive in this context. It doesn't matter who does it first, everyone is responsible for their own conduct.

On that note, I'd also advise that not everyone's first language is English, or have the same familiarity with common sayings. Idioms such as "fool's errand" could be misconstrued by some readers as namecalling if they aren't acquainted with the phrase.

Personally, I wouldn't want to see day and night cycles for Gotham and Metropolis. I would find it as jarring and out of place as the Supergirl poster on the current event. The game has a very specific feel to it that I think the extra realism would break, even if they maintained the "perpetually dim" and "perpetually bright." As people have mentioned, there are maps that do that. However, I'd add that I feel like that's part of what makes those maps unique.
