New power array augs

Bro, every company keeps record of their internal revenue. & when it comes time they act strategically & accordingly. Every company prepares for any kind of disruption & keeping tabs on other company products is a standard business practice. It's called competitive intelligence or benchmarking. You really think Daybreak doesn't take part in these kind of practices? How else can a product stay alive? They do it all the time. Changing up the formula, changing up the meta, dropping enticing new FOMO content that's OP.

They're banking on people to buy it out, which is why the option is available. ANY buy out option is a cash grab for the sole purpose of making a quick profit.

& yes it is common sense they're going to drop new content at the end of the year with a shiny new overpowered item to play with. If you don't play, you miss out on it. FOMO. If it wasn't FOMO, it would be accessible all year round for new & old players. & if it was a "free" event, there wouldn't be a need for a buy out option in the first place.
The purpose of a system is what it does.

You can assess the purpose of the Buyout function by looking at what things would be like if it did not exist.

People that don't have the time to play every day (or at least as many days as are required in the lifetime of the Event) would be outraged.
People that were forced to miss, say, the last week due to life circumstances would be outraged.
People that started playing after the Event was over would be outraged.

The Buyout system enables people in those situations to still obtain the rewards, now and for a considerable time after the Event ends, often at a pro-rated rate (And that pro-rated discount certainly doesn't suggest that they absolutely want people to pay as much as possible). That is what it does - accordingly, that is it's purpose.

It does also enable people that can't (or won't) wait, to get the Rewards on day 1. By their own choice. And that is what that is - a *choice*. Some of those people are outraged that it costs a lot. Something they know full well before they actually decide to do it.

Currently, people that don't want to buy it out, and see the option to do so as a cash grab, are the only other ones who are outraged by it - they're upset that the option to do something that they claim they won't ever do exists. The vast majority of the Players seem to just play it through and get their Rewards for free.

Also, you make *revenue* from Buyouts. You don't necessarily ever make a *profit*.

Not really, since that would apply to everyone, which does not make them "additional stat bonuses and enhanced effectiveness". Those aren't "additional" to anything, they're the base Stats granted across the board to everyone - why state that this is a special case for Fire? Also "interactions with Burning enemies are amplified through improved healing, defensive benefits, and increased survivability" is something Fire already does. How is that "also", rather than "as with everyone else"? Where's the "increased survivability" and "reinforcing" coming from? Why state that this is specific to Fire? No Health buff? No Defence Buff? Unless the two Fire Souls stack, I'm not seeing it.
Because that text was probably generated by AI.

Unfortunately, it's content like this that will have people "take a break" or walk away from the game entirely. Many will glorify it at first for being OP but will cause it to get stagnant really quickly due to limited creativity of loadouts & gameplay.

My assumption is this was the companies way of a quick cash grab before the GTA 6 killer comes out. It was a simple business tactic because it's more than likely there's going to be less players in November. They're probably going to pump out more FOMO content like this in the next couple of events.
When everything's OP, nothing's OP 🤷‍♀️

Yea, I'm well aware of how the buy out system works and personally have no problem with it. I've done so a couple of times myself being that I've come back to the game just recently after a 10 year hiatus.
My original comment was just an assumption & assessment as to why devs are going in this direction with the new augments. A lot of times it wouldn't even be their decision, it's in the hands of the investors.
With how the game is on a decline, I'm sure any revenue in Daybreak's eyes would be considered as a profit. Lol.

Lol. & when nothings OP, people find other OP things... in other games. 😆
Well, this was the balance people asked for, it was just a lazy execution. The novelty will certainly be there, but spamming 1 or 2 buttons gets old really quickly. Should be great times! Lol.

Do you really think that the investors micromanage the game to such an extent? That they know what an augment is? In fact - that they even know what DCUO is? That's extremely unlikely - people who are interested in comic book based MMOs don't tend to have investment money. And investors only care about numbers on spreadsheets You can rest assured, that all these decisions are made by the devs, even if the aim is to make the game appear active and profitable to the higher-ups, or shareholders.

If this was purely a "quick cash grab" - they'd be selling all that FOMO stuff on the Marketplace. Clearly, the main idea behind all these events and miss-able meta-influencing rewards is for the players to develop a habit of logging in regularly, regardless of whether or not new DLC is out - even if only for a few minutes a day. Not only does that make the activity metrics look good - which is what people holding the purse-strings care about - but when players don't take long breaks, out of FOMO, they're less likely to forget about the game and stop playing altogether. Obviously, making profit is the main goal, but players who are not around do not buy stuff.

Balance and variety of builds are important to players who are reasonably good at the game. All this overpowered, simplistic stuff is aimed at those casual players, who struggle to make a viable build, or to complete even Normal content. They're probably a largely untapped market. And yes - all these recent changes put off accomplished players, but I guess the company's taking the position of "F*** you, we got your money" on that...

We’ve reached the point where you either use the new Water Aug or you get carried. Think about it: you can clear the content without it because you’ll just be carried by those who do use it—meaning it makes no difference whether you’re actually participating or not. What’s the fun in a game like that?
Ask all the people who AFK during seasonal alerts. Though I do have to thank all the AFKers yesterday: they showed me I can easily solo the Summer alert -- because I did, more than once.

No. I'm actually almost positive investors have no idea this game even exists. However, being that they hold the reigns, they can easily sell their shares in the open market. Especially, if a product or company is no longer yielding the same results. Daybreak can't afford that. I didn't mean "decision" in the micro sense. Yes, devs do make the final decision & this could be a their attempt to keep the game flowing. Being that this is the 3rd dev team, they probably don't know every ins & outs of this game & are also still learning. It's possible AA being in these new augments is due to not knowing what else to do to appease the community or complainers.

Selling all the FOMO Content on the Marketplace is a great indicator that the project has already failed. Releasing an item as such that very much is game changing, & lazy at that, is a good sign something could be at bay. With a game like GTA being released right around the corner, a change of this magnitude was possibly their attempt to keep & secure the existing players they currently have. It was easier to say we survived GTA 5, but at the time DCUO had a much larger player base. Once the content goes stagnant & another game, which could be a home run, is released who's to decide who is going to take a long break? They will continue to drop meta-influencing rewards to keep our beloved whales around.

& with that big possible "F*** you" we're all still playing the game.

I just wanted to say overall, I love the new power array augments, effectively opening up all the powers over time to everyone in the game regardless of what power they choose to be is a breath of fresh air in a 15 year old MMORPG. The developers are cookin' with these changes and as a player who's been here since the beginning, I'm all about this and am having tonnes of fun with it.

I'll definitely give the devs that. They stay cooking in the kitchen.

With all the skipping people do, combined with new powers and arts, it's possible to finish the boss before people even finish loading in, RIP PS4 users.

I have wanted to mix and match powers for a while. I'm just glad it's not another TC limited collection. Debates can be had about which powers should be swappable but the idea is sound. I'm really glad Dehydrate wasn't in there or there really wouldn't be a point to Water at all. The only problem is Fire arguably lost it's most useful unique power/s. They haven't even buffed Mass Detonation yet (no reason for the dmg split now).

In just about all aspects of life, few things are less capable of gaining/holding my interest than homogenization.

If one is walking through a field of grass with a tree or two, they're not gonna accidentally walk in to a tree because they were hyper-focused on a blade of grass.

The visual effects were added to the FIre powerset. Fire users, if they put on the augment, will only get an additional stat bonus if ranked to max.
Thank you. Did fire as a whole get touched up visually or just those specific powers? Fire seems a bit more saturated and HD in the augment versions.

Will we ever see a bonus week for power array augs? It's been excluded from 2x Nth fortification in the past.
Although it's a flat 50k exp per rank, it can add up fast when trying to unlock the same ability for all alts.
