What is the point of having junk base items from Episode Vendor?

I admit I was at fault for not reading the description properly. But I don't understand why they would have random base items that aren't episode centric in the episode vendor. They could have put the generic items related to the episode in the box. But charging that much Source Marks for a box of base items that has no value or even episode significance and being sold by every episode vendor that also sells the unique episode base items seem confusing.

There's also Episode specific box as well. So they could have left it with that instead of having both. It could have been either episode specific or none at all. Would be less confusing to make a mistake.

Here is my very cynical idea on that. Some big wig somewhere thought:

"Hey, how do we get people to accidentally spend their well earned marks on crap that they can get from the broker for a few bucks or any omnibus instance so they can open their wallets and avoid the grind to earn those marks back?"

"Hey boss, I got an idea, put that crap for a high price on a vendor to make people think they're getting cool and creative base items specific to that episode"

"Genius!!!! Lets do that. But we'll put the currency on sale every now and then so it looks like we're being customer focused, when really we're trying to squeeze every dime out of them we can"

"Hey, maybe on top of that we can put things like a Monthly A.R.G.U.S bundle that is a limited purchase with a mediocre discount to make it seem like they're getting a bangin' deal, but really you're better purchasing the stuff individually, but they're not going to bother doing the math on something like that because why would they?"

"GENIUS kid, I love your thinking"

"But what if people don't like that?"

"Thats ok, we'll get the Community Creative League to say how good it is"

I never noticed them before. I think they should have none on the vendor until we get new base items (Usually, based on prior aftershock events, we get them during aftershock...) and then just add the new stuff in bundles. We already get all these base items when we play as new base items are so rare.

Agree. That's what I was confused on. I was trying to decorate my league base with specific theme (Atlantis) so I went to Atlantis vendor to find the rare base items. Saw these base item boxes (including Atlantis base item box). Thought I can get the most items for the buck with 25 items for 100 source marks. Ended up with crap load of generic rubbish we get on everything for 100 source marks. What a waste of SM. Then only I read the line in the description where it says it's not episode centric.

Every episode that has episode-related base items crates also have crates for generic items. That's nothing new.

Actually it is kinda new, it didn't start until around Fearful Day or Ep48 or somewhere around there, at least thats what I can see in game. But I'm fine with the episode specific base items, all for that.

But 1, lets put those things in the Cheetah vendor in HoL after all thats what she was made for. But 2), Lets keep the generic crap out of the caches, because when you start to mix generic crap into it, it gives people the iffy's and looks scummy and like you're trying to trick people out of their marks thinking they're getting something special and episode specific but really is generic crap.

First off, sorry this happened; I know other players who've done the same thing sadly. The bundles mentioned were added to the ep vendor slate in early 2019ish, and Atlantis was the 1st one affected IIRC.

I think the theory is: Players have favorite zones > offer them a variety of things there. Some folks aren't broker fans either *shrug* I def laughed at the staff meeting scenario tho :ROFLMAO:

Anyway, I hope this thread's feedback is taken constructively. Good luck!

I stand corrected, then again I never paid attention to those bundles. I did however pay attention to the fact that they started selling source marks around that time (May of the following year in fact), so I do find it funny how they started selling those crap bundles around that time and then started selling currency around a bit later.

Similar to the fact that I found the timing awfully coincidental (not that I buy the the coincidence angle 1 bit) that they started selling episode currency with Ep 48, and 1 or 2 DLCs later they increased the price of the episode vendor gear which lasted a few DLCs until it went back down after people complained. Personally I think they were hoping people wouldn't notice.
